The San Marino Grand Prix of 1994 was held on April 24, 1994, at the Imola track in Italy. The race was the third round of the 1994 Formula One World Championship. The race was marred by the death of the Austrian driver Roland Ratzenberger in a crash during qualifying. The next day, during the race itself, the world witnessed one of the darkest moments in Formula One history when Ayrton Senna, the three-time world champion, died tragically after a crash on the seventh lap. The Grand Prix was stopped on lap 5 and later abandoned after Senna's death. Despite the tragedy, the race continued onwards, and Michael Schumacher won. But the memories of the event will always be overshadowed by the loss of two drivers in the same weekend. The San Marino Grand Prix would not return to the calendar until the year 2001.
